The Challenge
A customer manufactures die sets and components for the tool and die industry using a Haas VF-4 with 300 PSI coolant. The part they are machining is a wearplate made from bronze.

Tool used: Guhring solid carbide drill with Firex coating
  • Hole depth = 0.90″
  • Hole dimeter = 0.3438″
  • 5046 RPM
  • 454 SFM
  • 0.008 IPR
  • 40.36 IPM
  • Cycle time = 1.3 seconds
  • Tool life = 6,000 holes
To improve the production process, the customer needed a solution that would increase tool life and decrease cycle time.
The Solution
Allied recommended the ASC 320 solid carbide drill.

  • Cycle time = 1.1 seconds
  • Tool life = 12,000 holes
